I'm going to be doing the first (600 mi) service in about a week, and I read over the Clymer manual and all the messages on torquing the head. I have a few questions:
1) The Clymer manual states that sometimes the engine has to be removed from the bike in order to remove the head cover. How typical is this? I can't imagine the average Suzuki dealer removing the engine for the $150 or so they charge for the first service.
2) Figure 99 in the Clymer manual shows one arrow pointing to a head cover bolt. How many are there altogether? Do I remove all of the bolts on top of the head cover, other than the one shown in Figure 98?
3) Regarding the front-and-back nuts that are accessed from the bottom, do I need to loosen these before torquing them down? What do you recommend for a torque wrench? My wrench will not fit in there. I could use a crow's foot, but won't that affect the torque calibration?
4) The manual shows the cam and rockers removed. I'm assuming that I don't need to do this.
5) Do I really need to remove, oil, and retorque the cylinder head nuts, or is it sufficient to check tightness with a torque wrench?
If someone wants to talk me out of doing this, go right ahead. :)
Thanks,
